Sewlebrity is a quilt series by Luke Haynes that explores the intersections of celebrity culture, portraiture, and three-dimensionality. Each work features a fabric portrait rendered using anamorphic perspective—a visual technique that distorts proportions unless viewed from a specific angle. As a result, viewers are required to move around the quilt in order to fully perceive the figure, creating an active and immersive relationship with the artwork.
By presenting iconic representations of celebrities in this format, Sewlebrity invites viewers to reconsider both quilts and cultural figures as sculptural, multidimensional entities—far from the flatness with which they are often perceived. The series challenges expectations of both medium and subject, merging the tactile intimacy of textiles with the constructed spectacle of fame.
Sewlebrity debuted in Tokyo, Japan, and continues to expand the visual language of contemporary quilt portraiture.
